saffron

last night i got out some of that yellow, cotton, Manos, yarn i told you about.  i cast on for the Stalks and Blossoms Scarf. it was the freebie pattern on the Purl Bee Blog this week.

love the color i'm working with. a bit of sunshine in my lap.

and this morning when i went to take the dog out i peeked over at my neighbor's crocus and sure-enough right there in the center was that bright yellow, perfectly matching, Saffron colorway.

if you don't subscribe to Purl Bee you should. www.purlbee.com this winter i made the Berlin Scarf. that was amazing fun to knit too. Purl Bee has sewing, crocheting and knitting ideas. you never know what they will come up with. and because they are a shop and a live blog, they are a keyboard away from helping you with questions. or they can sell and mail you all the supplies. fun!!!! {of course i'm not using the yarn they call for this time, but that's half the fun}

what goes around comes around

i had a pair of these in high school.

i didn't have lots of shoes in high school. just a few favorites for the seasons that i wore till they wore-out.

but these Kork-Ease Sandals were one of them.

well.....they're back. and it's funny because i was just thinking about those old high school shoes a few weeks ago. thinking...."those were great shoes, i wish i still had those shoes, now those were simple, stylish shoes".

i first saw them again here: www.sundancecatalog.com and i suffered from a bit of "sticker-shock". in the early 70's i scooped ice cream and worked in the record or junior fashion dept at Sears, i either walked or road my bike to work. i don't remember what i paid for those shoes but i doubt that it was even a fourth of the new asking price.

since first seeing them in that little, innocent catalog that arrived in my post they are EVERYWHERE. they are the talk of all the blogs, in all the fashion mags, splashed all over Entertainment Tonight. oh yeah....i love to be fashionable just like the next gal but really i just LOVE those shoes!

i didn't know they were "the new Uggs". and of-course, just for kicks, because of my common foot size, on said website the "popular" color, that i want is on the famous back order till who-knows-when. if you do some searching they can be found out and about, here and there.

(i know because my shippment arrived yesterday!!!!!)

just call me mellow-yellow

for a while all you heard was that pink was the new black.

well i think maybe yellow is the new pink. did you notice that it's everywhere?

i mean everywhere. it's on the covers of all the new, hip magazines. it's in all the home decorating idea books. it's in all the spring fashion catalogs. and that's odd because for a long time yellow has had a bad rap in the fashion world. you never heard a color more mention with these words following: "i just really can't wear yellow".

suddenly everyone can wear yellow. maybe because there are so many fasinating shades. listen to some of these {citron, butter, finch, chick, cumin, lemon, and i just got a shipment of yarn with these names, marigold and saffron}.

secretly, i've always been a fan of yellow. i have yellow in my kitchen, gold in  my home entryways, i have a yellow and natural wood table and chairs, i have a cute linen yellow Free People blazer that i got for my birthday last year, and you can bet i'll be knitting up some-little-thing in one of those new yarns!

switcheroo? maybe not.

did you ever think about it?

Spring and Fall are too short. they just are.

wouldn't it be fun to do a little switcheroo. trade Spring for Summer and Fall for Winter.

i think they are my two favorite seasons and they are so short lived.

not that i don't think Mother Nature knows what she's doing. i mean i guess it really wouldn't work out well for the flowers to sprout and the trees to bud for 3 months. that would be a very slow process.

and to be raking and bagging leaves for five or six months! yeah...that would be back breaking.

but the slow and lingering temps and the longer process of renewal or preparation for hibernation. now that could be fun.

at any rate...Spring...finally...here we come.

never talk to weirdos with cute outfits

"excuse me, do you think these camo pants go with this cute top"?  "would you wear these two together"?

then this look of -stranger/danger- and "yeah, i would wear that, it looks cute". and the girl does a quick exit out of the fashion department.

okay...i was shopping this weekend at Target for my 7 year old niece's birthday gift. i found what i thought was the cutest outfit. green and khaki camouflage pants and this cute little vintage-ish T-shirt with kind of a army green Peter Pan/fairy thing going on.

if i was 7 i would love it. heck....i would love it now. i kinda think those camo pants are cute just can't bring myself to wearing them. not quite that brave.

i don't shop for 7 year old girls much. i don't spend a lot of time around 7 year old girls. now Jr. High girls i can tell you what they wear, what they want to wear, what they shouldn't wear.....

so i looked around the department for another mom, you know shopping for girls stuff, so i could ask her opinion. there was no one around. i decided the outfit was pretty cute, put it in my cart and was looking at a little purse to match and a girl, about 9 years old starts to head into the department. i look at her for a moment and ask her "said question".

as soon as that question was out of my mouth and as soon as she gave me that look of 'why are you talking to me...i'm answering you and getting the .....out of here' look, i realized that i must have looked and sounded like the "stranger/dangers" that they tell the kids about in school and talk about on shows like Oprah.

then i was quickly going to say something like, "oh my gosh, that must have sounded like i was trying to get you to come over here and .....blah, blah, blah.....and i bet the next thing you thought i was going to say to you was, i have some candy, and ..... but i'm really a nice person, i mean i teach Jr. High kids, i'm just trying to find a cute outfit for my niece....."

yeah... that would have just made it worse!  yikes  :(

BTW: the Birthday Girl, she liked the outfit.

a brown beret

i just had to try that beret pattern.  i just couldn't get that beret, made with this yummy hot chocolate brown yarn i have, off my brain. so i went a head and knit it up. this cold weather is holding out. i know, you're thinking, "what's up with that, is she nuts?"  if i can wear and knit woolens a bit longer it helps me with this cold weather.

i made a brown beret. it's a slouchy one. done in a seed stitch pattern. so dreamy. you can find the pattern here: www.knitandtonic.typepad.com that Wendy has all the stylish patterns. can't wait til her book comes out. there will never be enough yarn or time in the day then!

wore my chocolate brown Le' Slouch Beret with my baby blue wool coat today, the one with the brown leather toggles and the faux hounds-tooth buttons.

smashingly warm!!!!

Sofia Coppola...such eye candy!!! just a girl's delight.

fashion, style, dancing, country homes, fields of flowers, desserts, shoes, decadence, ladies in waiting, fluffy bedding, jewels, coiffures, boudiors, silk and taffeta.

and all those days and nights of parties?

and those men...don't let them fool you. they had miles and miles of tights and shoes and rings and things.

Milena Canonero....this must have been so much fun. and that "doll" you took home from the Oscar's last weekend, i do have a feeling you did make a little costume for him.

and there's nothing like a good DVD version with special features like Louis XVI "cribs".

too bad it end all so badly for you dear.

marie-antoinette, loved the movie.
